This 1833 German pamphlet that describe America to prospective immigrants. After the failed revolutions of 1848, German-speakers flocked to the United States in order to escape repressive political and economic situations in their home countries. Many of St. Mary’s German parishioners stemmed from both this group and a later group of immigrants fleeing anti-Catholic policies during the 1870s.
