Vawter Dedication

The Civil War Memorial, also sometimes called the Vawter Memorial, was erected due to the efforts of Franklin resident John Terrell Vawter. It was dedicated in November 1905 to a grand crowd. Vawter had hoped to gain support for a much larger memorial to Johnson County soldiers from all wars, but ended up using $5000 of his own to erect this smaller monument to Civil War soldiers.
