St. John the Evangelist is one of the oldest Catholic churches in Indianapolis. This Sanborn map shows the location and structure of the church and its associated buildings, including two libraries, two schools, and a home for priests. The Sisters of Providence ran the St. John’s Academy for girls and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart ran St. John’s School. Many of the teachers and students were Irish immigrants. | Source: Library of Congress Geography and Map Division Download Original File
