Canal Scene

This painting of the Wabash and Erie Canal gives an idea of what the canal looked like. Horses and mules often pulled canal boats. Two horses can be seen on the path next to the canal. A lock is pictured ahead of the boat, which was used to change the water level or height of the boat to ensure it could continue moving down the canal. | Source: Wabash & Erie Canal Museum, Delphi, Indiana
